These are examples of the visual (2 slide projector, single screen, fade and dissolve) approach accompanying the sound. Keep in mind that between one image and the next is a continuum, and the examples you see here are randomly plucked from the continuous process which typically takes place over a 30-45 second time period in which one slide merges into another. The approach is to fuse these very real images together to form a more abstract, evocatively dynamic rendering of the Rainforest experience in keeping with the music.
In the darkened room we will have several chairs upon which participants can sit and watch the screen. The complete slide presentation takes c. 2 hrs. Imagine walking into a space with an evocative sound drone peppered with rainforest sounds and softly lit in green light. In this atmosphere, the slides make a powerful contribution to the overall mystique.
We have found that viewers will often sit for many minutes (or even hours) as the ever-changing images wash over them. This visual aspect provides a powerful focus on the rainforest theme, as well as complementing the audio-creative aspects.
In a museum, gallery, or room setting where visitors come and go continually, the slide presentation is everpresent. In special instances where classes come in all together, such as in an auditorium, it becomes an actual media event with the audience seated watching the slides as they all take turns, five at a time, coming up on stage to create the rainforest sound.
The slide show consists of our expeditions to rainforests in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Peru (Amazon Jungle and Cloud Forests), Florida Everglades, and temperate rainforests of Alaska, Pacific Northwest, and the Adirondacks. Our most recent exp[edition has been a 3-month journal in Malaysian Borneo.
