These new, beautifully-produced DVD releases are the result of two years work covering a decade of McLean Mix music/media activity, including the last two major concerts ("Inside the Time Machine" and "MILLing in the ENNIUM") as well as all works from their current concert "Natural Energy." The earlier works are somewhat documentary in nature, but most of them increasingly incorporate experimental and abstract video as well. In all instances, the sound quality is superb, being digitally recorded under optimum conditions.
Five new reviews of these have just appeared. Check these out.
1. MILLing in the ENNIUM 23:15
2. JAMBORI RIMBA 27:21
3. NATURAL ENERGY 17:50
4. NATURAL ENERGY Live Dress Rehearsal 15:47
The three collaborations of Barton and Priscilla McLean span the first eight years of this century. "MILLing in the ENNIUM" is a stirring collage of the world's music and dance, celebrating the Millenium. "JAMBORI RIMBA" is a multi-collaboration: music by both Barton and Priscilla McLean, sounds and dances from the Iban and Kenyan tribes of Sarawak, Borneo, where the McLeans were in residence during autumn of 1996, birds and cicada songs from the oldest rainforest in the world (Borneo), and video by Hasnul Jamal Saidon, international Malaysian artist. The newest work, "NATURAL ENERGY" (2008) is a dual collaboration of live-performed music and prerecorded video by the McLeans, presented here in its final version with video track throughout (as in actual performance) in addition to a bonus dress rehearsal version. The dress rehearsal is an actual live stage-lit musical performance, with the video not used due to stage lighting, but occasionally added in a surrealistic blend with the dress rehearsal film.

3. WILDERNESS / PRISCILLA McLEAN 15:25
4. MAGIC AT XANADU / BARTON McLEAN 9:50
5. Program Notes(on all four pieces) 5:05
These four pieces are the epitome of the McLean Mix experience, featuring three which were performed and recorded at Engine 27, New York City, on June 7, 2000, and the fourth, "MAGIC AT XANADU", recorded at the live performance at Knickerbocker Theatre, Holland, Michigan on April 10, 2008. Ranging from virtuosic experimental vocal techniques with live music and video processing against a backdrop of recorded vocal sounds and ocean video ("IN THE BEGINNING"), to Chaplinesque clownlike humor of "HAPPY DAYS" (with more serious music), to a very recent tour de force using MAX MSP programming performed and created by Barton McLean, this DVD affords a true picture of the McLean Mix concert style.
